Regional Museum Maribor has prepaired a new permanent exhibition, in the year of European Capital of Culture, in the upper floor of the bell tower of Maribor’s Cathedral church of St. John the Baptist. In the 14th century a four floor tower was built and put in the geometric center of the city, among the parish church, to lookout on the neighborhood and to defense the city against fires. As the greatest danger was represented by fire, the tower had also a small apartment on the top floor. In 1933, fire guards were withdrawn, the last fire guard Mrs. Antonia Weiss, was dismissed.
With this exhibition, the Regional Museum Maribor is approaching to the modern concept of the museum, which is turning in the 21st century from the conservational paradigm into search of unique stories. Their placement into an endless stream of history offers to the wandering individual an opportunity to be identified with these stories. The exhibits, which are selected for the exhibition, are also providing this identification.
